We have welcomed our new ‘Year 7’ students to the academy this morning, at the start of the final week of term, for their Year 6 Transition Week. Existing students are almost as excited as our new community members from our primary schools, and they have been preparing in their VMG (‘Vertical Mentor Groups’, ie mixed age tutor groups) to welcome new students to their forms.
The week runs from Monday 17 July until the last day of term, Friday 21 July and students have already started their new timetables, which will be the same ones as in September. They are spending the week getting used to the routines of the academy, meeting their new teachers, classmates and tutor groups. There is a lot to get used to for September, but we find that focussing on a ‘normal’ week makes this all the more successful.
Our Transition Evening is tonight, Monday 17 July commencing at 5.30pm where there will be a short presentation from the Executive Principal, Mr Wappat, as well as other useful information to support Transition Week and the move to our academy over the next few days.
As we have a record breaking 180 students joining in Year 7 in September, so we would request that if possible, parents attend without their sons/daughters, to ensure we have enough room in the Main Hall. There is no obligation for Year 6 on Transition Week to attend the Evening, but of course parents can bring children along if needed.
